Pick the best dress for your body

By Susan Henderson

The selection of your bridal gown is a No. 1 priority. You will be the center of attention – all eyes will be on you on your wedding day...

How do you determine which gown will suit your personal style as well as flatter your figure?

To help you select the perfect gown you should understand there are four basic body shapes:

THE HOURGLASS
This is curvaceous.  Think simple, classic lines.  Sheaths that won't be too overpowering. V-necklines and strapless will also work well on the hourglass figure.

THE TRIANGLE
A common figure type, with small shoulders and a wider bottom. The key is to add proportion and balance. Look for long bodices and full skirts to emphasize the waist and de-emphasize the hips.  Texture with lace detail or embroidered bodices.  Skirts with a soft fullness.

THE INVERTED TRIANGLE
A figure that is full on top and narrow on the bottom. Broad shoulders and narrow hips. You should de-emphasize the bust and shoulders and give width to the lower body. Look for simple sleeves and a natural shoulder line. Full skirts or peplums on skirts and layering of fabrics.  Simple bodices.

THE RECTANGLE
Slim arms and legs on this figure. The bust and hips equal in width.  Very little waist definition. Look for gowns that are pleated with full skirts with round or jewel necklines.

Wedding gowns are more versatile than they have ever been. Any woman, regardless of her figure can look perfect on her special day.  §
